About Whitby Rubber Surfacing

Whitby Rubber Surfacing Pours Rubber On Top Of What Is Down Now

Whitby Rubber Surfacing is a contractor for poured rubber surfacing, based in Whitby, Ontario, working across the town from the harbour to Brooklin and west into Ajax and Pickering. We blend rubber granules with a polyurethane binder and trowel the blend by hand over concrete, asphalt, pavers, wood and stone. Whatever was down before becomes the base.

Every Whitby job we take is fully insured, start to finish. Quotes are put in writing once we have made a free visit to the slab, and the phone is staffed from 7:00am to 6:00pm, Monday to Saturday.

About Whitby Rubber Surfacing

Preparation Is Where A Rubber Surfacing Job Is Won Or Lost

On most jobs the whole first day goes to the slab, not the rubber, because poured rubber surfacing only lasts as long as its bond. The slab is pressure washed or ground down, sealer and paint come off, and each crack that still moves gets repaired. Hairline and static cracks are left alone; the rubber is flexible and bridges them.

The slab has to be dry before it is primed. On the clay plain south of Rossland Road that can mean waiting a day after rain. On the moraine sand north of Brooklin it drains faster. We do not pour rubber surfacing on a damp or dusty surface, because that is the job that peels.

Two Granules And Two Binders, Each With Its Own Job

Where colour shows we use EPDM granules; where black is wanted, or a cushion goes under a top layer, we use SBR. EPDM is fresh rubber, coloured through the whole granule, and it holds that colour in sun. SBR is ground from old tires, black and cheaper, and it is the right rubber surfacing for garage floors, gyms and playground bases.

The binder is polyurethane. Aromatic binder costs less and can amber a pale colour where the sun is strong. Aliphatic binder costs more and does not yellow, so we price it on pale pool decks and walkways. The quote says which binder the rubber surfacing is priced on.

Where Whitby Rubber Surfacing Works

We work throughout the Town of Whitby, which since 1968 has included Brooklin, Ashburn and Myrtle in the north as well as Port Whitby, Downtown Whitby, Pringle Creek, Blue Grass Meadows, Lynde Creek, Williamsburg, Rolling Acres and Taunton North. Ajax is a short run west along the 401 and Pickering is just past it.

The surfaces change across that area. Lakeshore streets have the oldest pool decks and the clay that heaves them. The newer subdivisions in Williamsburg, Taunton North and Brooklin have stamped concrete and interlock. The farms north of the 407 have barns. Rubber surfacing goes on all of them.

How A Rubber Surfacing Price Is Arrived At

We price every job from a site visit and a tape measure, never from a photo alone. The area is measured, the use sets the depth, the colour and binder are chosen, and the preparation needed on that slab is assessed. Those four things set the price, and all four are written into the quote.

Across Durham Region, covering an existing pool deck, patio, garage floor or flight of steps with rubber surfacing commonly costs $8 to $16 a square foot; playgrounds run $15 to $30 and up, since they are so much deeper. There is a minimum charge on small jobs.

What We Install

What We Pour

The six services we pour across Whitby, Brooklin, Ajax and Pickering.

Pool Deck Surfacing

Around an in-ground pool, the concrete, pavers or stamped deck already in place becomes the base, and we trowel pool deck rubber surfacing onto it for a cooler, softer, slip-resistant finish. Every Whitby job we take is fully insured, start to finish.

Driveway and Garage Floor Surfacing

Salt-pitted garage floors and cracked drives, concrete or asphalt, get covered by our driveway and garage rubber surfacing, a skin that sheds water and will not scale. Every Whitby job we take is fully insured, start to finish. Whatever slab is down now is what the rubber surfacing gets poured onto.

Playground Safety Surfacing

Backyards, daycares, schools, churches and parks get playground rubber surfacing from us: a deep cushion layer matched to the equipment under a coloured top. Every Whitby job we take is fully insured, start to finish. The finished playground is seamless, drains, and can be crossed in a wheelchair.

Patio, Walkway and Step Surfacing

Paths and steps in concrete, interlock, stone or wood get wrapped by our patio and step rubber surfacing in one continuous skin that sheds water and holds a boot through ice season. Every Whitby job we take is fully insured, start to finish. Whatever is down now stays put as the base.
